blood on the street

I was sure some day it will happen. And it will happen again. Every day we go by bus to our workplace. Every day we drive the eight-lined street guarding to New Cairo. Every day people try to cross this street, running between the cars, threading themselves through the traffic, a traffic that moves with estimated 70km/h.

This morning we had a traffic jam heading to New Cairo. The reason for this jam was not obvious, until we could see the newspaper and the red surface on the street. Sometimes they are not fast enough. How this is allowed to happen is hard to understand.

12 minutes…

are left till my battery is empty… therefore… we make it short. Again copts, again killed, this time supposably by a policeman in a train. You do not need to really read the news to know that something worse happened. Accidentally there is military and police all around, with heavy weapons and helmets on their head, expecting riots. This time, nothing happened, everything kept quiet. But I learned how to read the signs.

panic…

It is the end. Of the semester. As usual there is a lot of stuff to do. Especially for the students. My current students have an interesting strategy to solve this problem… they just do not appear. Not only one… all of them. Presentation is something that may happen or not… and if it happens it is more something like…ah…an event, coming and going, shouting and discussing…. say goodbye to the german way of presentation and pronounce a warm welcome to the interesting, chaotic but also exiting GUC-design-students way of showing their work… we will start an hour later. Or two. Inch’allah.

FROST

Folks…at the moment it is as cold as in winter times in Germany! OK. Almost. But I thought I am in a warm, if not hot, country! And now I have to leave my flat dressed for an excursion to the north pole! And if this would not be enough, someone send us a little sand storm. Maybe this is not too bad because it keeps you moving while weeping the sand out of your flat without going in danger to freeze…
